Air Conditioning Bus Hose

Air conditioning bus hose is the line that connects the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator in a coach air-conditioning system. It carries refrigerant long term under three conditions: refrigerant charge, pressure pulsation, and long-term exposure to the exterior thermal environment. Typical use includes refrigerant lines for large-bus A/C systems and other vehicle A/C lines using fluorinated refrigerants. Coaches widely use variable-frequency compressors, so pressure pulses continuously through the running cycle — the hose must hold pressure and endure the long-term cycle, not just peak pressure.

Construction

  • Inner Tube: CSM refrigerant-resistant special rubber, isolating refrigerant and grease corrosion.
  • Reinforcement: Polyester fiber braid or steel wire braid, raising pressure capacity and bend resistance.
  • Outer Cover: Yellow weather-resistant EPDM rubber, resisting UV, oil and ozone aging.

Working Temperature: -40°C to +135°C.

The Defining Failure Mode: Permeation

The most special failure mode of this hose is permeation. On the high-pressure side the refrigerant is hot and high-pressure, and its molecules slowly migrate through the inner layer toward the low-pressure side. Migration accelerates with temperature, and long-term high temperature and pressure make refrigerant loss visible over time.

The inner tube uses CSM refrigerant-resistant special rubber with good compatibility to fluorinated refrigerants and refrigeration oil, while also isolating the grease corrosion that refrigerant leakage would cause to surrounding parts. The reinforcement offers polyester fiber braid or steel wire braid; coach A/C lines run between cabin and chassis with complex routing and repeated bends, so bend resistance matters — choose the structure by pressure class to keep pulsation stable. The outer cover is yellow weather-resistant EPDM: yellow does not change performance but serves as a quick-identification mark during service, while the EPDM itself resists UV, oil and ozone for lines exposed long-term to sun and splashes outside the vehicle.

How to Select

  • Control permeation on the high-temperature, high-pressure side. Permeation accelerates with temperature and pressure, so the high/low pressure sections have different demands. With large pressure pulsation amplitude, focus on inner-layer permeation control and choose a stronger structure on the high-pressure side if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Could a slow A/C cool-down be the hose?
Possibly. Inner-layer permeation slowly migrates refrigerant between high and low sides, reducing effective charge and weakening cooling. It develops slowly, so check pressure and charge to confirm.

Why a refrigerant-resistant special rubber for the inner tube?
Refrigerant and refrigeration oil are special media unfriendly to ordinary rubber; incompatible material can swell, harden or be eroded, and a leak would also affect nearby parts. The special rubber guarantees compatibility and long-term stability.

Why is the outer cover yellow?
Yellow is for service identification. Coach A/C lines are distributed across chassis and cabin; a bright color speeds up locating and replacing. The material itself remains weather-resistant EPDM.

How often to replace?
It depends on system pressure, temperature, frequency and mounting position — no single interval. Check the outer cover periodically for aging cracks, bulges or deformation, and the joints for oil film or frost. With lines so distributed, periodic checks beat waiting for failure.

Why Yibo

Yibo Technology focuses on hydraulic, high-pressure and industrial hose manufacturing with complete in-house production from raw material to finished product. For vehicle A/C, where refrigerant compatibility and permeation control are demanding, we give advice based on refrigerant type, pressure and mounting position rather than quoting the highest specification. Tell us the refrigerant, pressure and layout, and we match the right structure. Small trial orders and volume customization are both supported.
