Hose Size Chart — Reading a Dash Number in One Pass
A dash number is the bore in sixteenths of an inch. Dash -06 is six sixteenths, which is 3/8 inch, which is 9.53 mm. Once that is fixed, every other column on a hose table becomes readable, because size drives pressure, outside diameter, bend radius and weight together.
Our 2SN codes carry both figures in the part number. 2SN-06-10 is dash 06 with a 10 mm nominal bore; 2SN-04-06 is dash 04 with 6.3 mm. Inside diameter is published as a band rather than a point, so -06 reads 9.3 to 10.1 mm and -04 reads 6.2 to 7.0 mm.
The columns move together. Across the four codes the outside diameter goes from 16 mm to 21.7 mm, the minimum bend radius from 90 mm to 130 mm, and the working pressure falls from 41.5 MPa to 33.0 MPa. Upsizing a hose is never a single-number change.

WHY THIS HOSE
Six Columns, One Decision
A size chart is only useful if you know which column is allowed to move and which one is fixed by the machine.
Dash Number Is Sixteenths
Divide the dash by 16 and multiply by 25.4 for millimetres: -03 gives 4.76 mm, -04 gives 6.35, -05 gives 7.94, -06 gives 9.53.
Nominal Is Rounded
The table lists 5, 6.3, 8 and 10 mm against those dashes. Those are catalogue nominals, so the working figure is the inside diameter band, not the nominal.
The Band Is the Real Bore
A -06 hose is 9.3 to 10.1 mm, a 0.8 mm window. A 10 mm fitting insert has to work anywhere inside it, which is why fittings are specified by dash as well.
Outside Diameter Sets the Clamp
16 mm at -03 rising to 21.7 mm at -06. A clamp sized for the smaller hose will not close on the larger one, whatever the pressure rating says.
Bend Radius Sets the Route
90 mm at -03 through 130 mm at -06. On a short run in a crowded frame this is the column that kills a size before pressure is even discussed.
Pressure Falls as You Upsize
41.5 MPa at -03 against 33.0 MPa at -06, on the same construction. A bigger bore is not a stronger hose; it is a lower-rated one with more flow capacity.
CONSTRUCTION
What Changes Inside as the Dash Grows
Inner Tube
Bored 4.6 mm at dash -03 up to 10.1 mm at dash -06. Flow capacity scales with the square of this figure, which is why one dash step is a large flow step.
Reinforcement
Two wire braids at every dash, but the braid layer grows from 10.6 to 17.3 mm. The same construction covers a bigger circle, so pressure per unit of wire falls.
Cover
Outside diameter 16 mm at -03 to 21.7 mm at -06. This is the number to take to a clamp, a gland plate or a cable-chain dimension drawing.
APPLICATIONS
Where Each Dash Usually Lands
-03 / 3/16 Inch
Pilot lines and gauge runs, 41.5 MPa and a 90 mm arc through a valve block.
-04 / 1/4 Inch
Small cylinder lines and clamp circuits at 40.0 MPa, common on machine tools.
-05 / 5/16 Inch
Steering and auxiliary circuits at 35.0 MPa where a 115 mm arc is available.
-06 / 3/8 Inch
The default machine pressure line at 33.0 MPa, the size most service trucks carry.
Sizing by Flow
At 20 L/min a -06 bore runs about 4.2 m/s; the same flow through -04 runs about 10.5 m/s, which is hot and noisy.
Sizing by Space
On a short crowded run the 90 mm arc of -03 is often the only dash that will physically fit.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
Why Size Questions Outnumber Pressure Questions
In practice most hose returns come from the wrong dash, not the wrong pressure class. The size chart is the page that prevents them.
① Mixed Metric and Imperial hose sizing
Trend: Machines are built to both systems and serviced in either.
Dohose: Every row carries dash, inch and millimetre, 3/8 inch beside 9.3 to 10.1 mm.
② Flow Over Pressure large bore hose
Trend: Some circuits are sized for flow and sit well below the pressure ceiling.
Dohose: The -06 code holds 33.0 MPa, more than most flow-critical lines need.
③ Compact Machine Design compact routing
Trend: Shorter runs and tighter frames push sizing toward the smaller dash.
Dohose: 90 mm arc at -03 and 100 mm at -04 are published per row.
④ Clamp and Gland Planning hose routing
Trend: Outside diameter is requested at design stage, not at fitting stage.
Dohose: OD is published from 16 mm to 21.7 mm across the range.
⑤ Fitting Interchange crimped hose
Trend: Buyers want the dash and the thread called out together.
Dohose: Assemblies ship with metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS ends matched to the dash.
⑥ Weight Budgets lightweight hose
Trend: Weight is budgeted per metre on mobile machines.
Dohose: 0.33 kg/m at -03 rising to 0.6 kg/m at -06.

FAQ
Hose Size Chart — Ten Sizing Questions
Is dash -06 the same as 3/8 inch?
Yes. Dash -06 is six sixteenths of an inch, which is 3/8 inch, or 9.53 mm. The table publishes the working band as 9.3 to 10.1 mm inside diameter against a 10 mm nominal, with a 21.7 mm outside diameter and a 130 mm minimum bend radius.
What is the difference between -05 and 5/16 inch?
Nothing: they are the same size written two ways. Dash -05 is 5/16 inch, listed on this table at an 8 mm nominal bore with a 7.7 to 8.5 mm inside diameter band, a 19.4 mm outside diameter and 35.0 MPa working pressure.
How do I convert a dash number to millimetres?
Divide by 16 and multiply by 25.4. Dash -03 gives 4.76 mm, -04 gives 6.35, -05 gives 7.94 and -06 gives 9.53. The table rounds these to 5, 6.3, 8 and 10 mm, so read the inside diameter band for the real figure: 4.6 to 5.4 mm at -03.
What is the outside diameter of a -04 hose?
The -04 code is 17.7 mm outside diameter on a 6.2 to 7.0 mm inside diameter, with 40.0 MPa working pressure and a 100 mm minimum bend radius. That outside figure is what a clamp, a bulkhead gland or a cable-chain drawing has to clear.
Why is the dash number in sixteenths and not millimetres?
Because the dash system predates metric hose in the American market, and a sixteenth of an inch gives a step fine enough to name every practical bore with a whole number. Dash -03 through -06 covers 4.76 to 9.53 mm, the four sizes most machine circuits use.
Why does a 3/8 hose list a 10 mm nominal and not 9.53?
Because nominal bore is a rounded catalogue size, while the inside diameter is a controlled band. The -06 code is published as 9.3 to 10.1 mm, which brackets both 9.53 and 10, and a fitting insert is specified by dash so it works anywhere inside that window.
Why does the bend radius grow as the dash grows?
Because the arc follows the outside diameter, and outside diameter climbs from 16 mm at -03 to 21.7 mm at -06. The table tracks it as 90 mm, 100 mm, 115 mm and 130 mm, so each dash step costs routing space as well as gaining flow.
Which dash for 20 litres per minute?
Dash -06. A 10 mm bore gives roughly 4.2 m/s at 20 L/min, while the same flow through a 6.35 mm -04 bore runs near 10.5 m/s, which is noisy and generates heat. The -06 code holds 33.0 MPa, well above most flow-led duties.
What is the minimum order across the size range?
100 m per size, cut to length, from the -03 code at 4.6 to 5.4 mm up to -06 at 9.3 to 10.1 mm. Coils are marked with dash, nominal bore and batch, and four sizes ship in one container at 0.33 to 0.6 kg/m.
How is a hose priced by size?
By mass per metre and by dash: 0.33 kg/m at -03, 0.42 at -04, 0.47 at -05 and 0.6 at -06 on this range. Send the dash, the length, the end types and the destination, and a firm figure comes back the same working day.
