PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
R6 Hose — The Return Line Standard at 20 bar
SAE 100R6 is the hose a hydraulic system uses where pressure has already done its work: return lines, case drains, and low-pressure control runs. Six codes from 6 to 19 mm inside diameter, all rated 20 bar working with 60 bar minimum burst.
The rating is flat and the margin is 3:1, which is normal for a return-line class rather than the 4:1 used on pressure lines. Coils run 100 m on every code, so a return run can be pulled in one length through a frame instead of jointed in the middle.
Bend radius is the column that varies: 60 mm at the 1/4 inch code up to 190 mm at 3/4 inch. On a machine the return leg is usually the easiest line to route, which is why the small codes are so common.
Ends are metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS, crimped and pressure-tested in-house, and every size is supplied in 100 metre coils. A distributor can hold one class at one pressure and still cover a whole fleet of return and drain lines.

SAE 100R6 HYDRAULIC HOSE assemblies ship crimped and pressure-tested, with metric / BSP / JIC / ORFS ends. SAE 100R6 HYDRAULIC HOSE runs roughly 20 days from confirmation over its 6 codes, with OEM marking and packing.
WHY THIS HOSE
Why a Return Line Has Its Own Standard
A return leg carries flow at low pressure. Specifying a 4:1 pressure body for it wastes weight and money.
20 bar at All Six
Every code from 6 to 19 mm is 20 bar working with 60 bar burst. The rating does not change with bore.
3:1, Not 4:1
A return line is not a pressure line. The published ratio is 3:1 on 60 bar, and it is quoted as it stands.
60 mm at 1/4 Inch
The tightest arc in the range, on a 14 mm outside diameter, which is what a crowded frame allows.
100 m Without a Joint
A return run often crosses the whole machine. One coil covers it, and the couplings end up where they can be reached.
180 g per Metre
0.18 kg/m at the small end to 0.55 kg/m at 3/4 inch, light enough to clip to a frame rather than support.
Six Sizes to 3/4
The range stops at 19 mm, because above that a return line moves to a suction and discharge class.
CONSTRUCTION
Textile Braid for Low Pressure
Inner Tube
Oil-resistant synthetic rubber, bored 6 mm to 19 mm. A return line sees the same oil as a pressure line, at a fraction of the stress.
Reinforcement
Textile braid rated for 20 bar working with 60 bar burst. It carries a return-line load, not a pressure-line one.
Cover
Abrasion-resistant cover, outside diameter 14 mm at the 1/4 inch code through 29 mm at 3/4 inch.
APPLICATIONS
Where R6 Is Used
Return Lines
10 and 13 mm at 20 bar, carrying oil back to tank across a machine frame.
Case Drains
6 and 8 mm at 60 mm and 80 mm arcs, where the drain must not be restricted.
Pilot Return
Low-pressure control returns that sit well under the 20 bar rating.
Filter Circuits
Lines between a return filter and the tank, where pressure is a few bar at most.
Lube and Cooling
Low-pressure oil delivery where a pressure line would be over-specified.
Machine Tools
Return runs inside a base casting, where the 14 mm outside diameter of the small code fits.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
What Return-Line Buyers Ask
The questions are about flow, routing and whether a cheaper class can be used, because the answer is usually yes.
① Right-Sizing the Class low pressure hose
Trend: Teams over-specify return lines with a pressure body.
Dohose: R6 is 20 bar with a 3:1 margin, which is the correct class for a return.
② Flow Without Pressure large bore hose
Trend: Return lines are sized for pressure drop.
Dohose: Six codes to 19 mm, all at the same 20 bar.
③ Long Runs long length hose
Trend: Return legs cross the whole machine.
Dohose: 100 m coils on every code.
④ Tight Frames compact routing
Trend: Space is taken by the pressure lines first.
Dohose: 60 mm arc at 1/4 inch, 14 mm outside.
⑤ Weight on Moving Parts lightweight hose
Trend: Return lines follow moving arms too.
Dohose: 0.18 to 0.55 kg/m across the range.
⑥ Stores Standardisation standard hose
Trend: One return class across a fleet.
Dohose: All six codes at 20 bar, so the bore is the only choice.
WHY DOHOSE
Seven Reasons Buyers Stay with Us
Numbers, Not Averages
Every figure for the SAE 100R6 Hydraulic Hose comes from the per-code table: 6–19 mm, 20 bar working, 60 bar burst.
One Line, Full Range
All 6 codes of the SAE 100R6 Hydraulic Hose come off the same line, so a mixed order in 6–19 mm ships together.

FAQ
R6 Hose — Ten Questions
What is the working pressure of R6?
Every code is 20 bar working with 60 bar minimum burst, a 3:1 margin, from the 6 mm bore to the 19 mm bore. It is a return-line class, so the ratio is 3:1 rather than the 4:1 used on pressure lines.
R6 vs R4 — which for a return line?
R6 for a plain return, R4 where suction is involved. R6 is a textile braid at 20 bar up to 19 mm, while R4 covers 19 to 102 mm at 21 bar down to 4 bar with a spiral wire for suction duty.
Can R6 replace a pressure hose on a return leg?
Yes, and that is the point of the class. A return leg runs at a few bar, so 20 bar with 60 bar burst is the correct specification rather than a compromise, and the lighter body is easier to route.
What are the bore sizes and arcs?
Six codes: 6, 8, 10, 13, 16 and 19 mm inside diameter, with minimum bend radius 60, 80, 100, 130, 160 and 190 mm in the same order. Outside diameter runs 14 mm to 29 mm.
Why does the bend radius grow so quickly?
Because the arc follows the bore. The 1/4 inch code turns in 60 mm and the 3/4 inch code needs 190 mm, while the pressure rating stays at 20 bar across the whole range, so the size is purely a flow and space decision.
Why is the burst margin 3:1 on this class?
Because a return line is not subject to the spikes a pressure line sees. The table publishes 60 bar burst on 20 bar working, and the page quotes that ratio rather than implying the 4:1 of a pressure body.
Which code for a machine return line?
The 10 or 13 mm code at 20 bar on a 100 or 130 mm arc. A return line is sized for pressure drop rather than pressure, so the bore follows the flow and the class stays the same.
Which code for a case drain?
The 6 or 8 mm code at 60 and 80 mm arcs and 0.18 to 0.21 kg/m. A drain must not be restricted, so the size is chosen to keep back-pressure low, and the small outside diameter routes easily.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
100 metres per size, cut to length, and the standard coil is already a full 100 metres, which is 328 ft in the length column. Production runs about 20 days from confirmation.
What does R6 cost per metre?
Price follows the bore: 0.18 kg/m at 1/4 inch, 0.21 at 5/16, 0.25 at 3/8, 0.36 at 1/2, 0.48 at 5/8 and 0.55 kg/m at 3/4 inch. Send bore, length, ends and destination for a firm figure the same working day.
