PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
R5 Hose — 210 bar at 1/4 Inch, 14 bar at 3 Inch
SAE 100R5 is a textile-braided low-pressure hose, and it does something the constant-pressure series do not: the rating falls steeply as the bore grows. The 1/4 inch code holds 21.0 MPa (210 bar), the 3/4 inch code 5.2 MPa, and the 3 inch code 1.4 MPa (14 bar).
That is not a defect, it is the class. A textile braid over a 76 mm bore has far less wire per unit of hoop stress than the same braid over 7 mm, so the rating has to come down. The range therefore has to be read row by row rather than assumed.
Eleven codes run from 6 to 76 mm inside diameter, with burst at four times the working figure on every row: 84.0 MPa under 21.0, and 5.6 MPa under 1.4. Mass runs 0.25 to 2.84 kg/m, and the table does not publish a bend radius for this class.

Application & Selection
SUITABLE FOR CONVEYING HYDRAULIC FLUIDS SUCH AS GLYCOL, HYDRAULIC OIL, LUBRICATING OIL, AND EMULSIONS, ETC. HYDRAULIC HOSE SAE 100R5 is published in 11 codes spanning 6–76 mm bore.
Across the 11 codes of HYDRAULIC HOSE SAE 100R5 the top figure is 210 bar working against 840 bar minimum burst — 4:1. Plan the supports around 0.25–2.84 kg/m per metre. Crimped and tested to the 210 bar working figure, across the 11 codes of this range. 100 m minimum applies to HYDRAULIC HOSE SAE 100R5 from the R5-4-06 row upward.
WHY THIS HOSE
Why R5 Must Be Read Row by Row
Most hose pages quote one pressure. This one quotes eleven, and the spread is a factor of fifteen.
210 bar at 1/4 Inch
The small code carries a genuine pressure rating, on a 14.1 to 15.1 mm outside diameter and 0.25 kg/m.
56 bar at 3/4 Inch
The 19 mm code is down to 5.2 MPa. It is a different duty from the small end of the same range.
14 bar at 3 Inch
The 76 mm code holds 1.4 MPa with 5.6 MPa burst, at 2.84 kg/m and an 88.3 to 90.7 mm outside diameter.
4:1 on Every Row
84.0 on 21.0, 56.0 on 14.0, 5.6 on 1.4. The ratio is constant even though the ceiling is not.
No Bend Radius Published
This class is specified by bore and pressure; the table gives inside and outside diameter and mass but no minimum arc.
Two Bores Share 2.4 MPa
The 46 mm and 61 mm codes are both 2.4 MPa with 9.6 MPa burst, so above 1-1/2 inch the size is a pure flow decision.
CONSTRUCTION
Textile Braid, Wide Range
Inner Tube
Oil-resistant synthetic rubber, bored 6.1 mm to 77.8 mm. The tube is common; the braid above it decides the rating.
Reinforcement
Textile braid, rated from 21.0 MPa at the smallest bore down to 1.4 MPa at the largest. One braid cannot hold the same pressure on a 76 mm circle as on a 7 mm one.
Cover
Abrasion-resistant cover, outside diameter 14.1 to 15.1 mm at the 1/4 inch code through 88.3 to 90.7 mm at 3 inch.
APPLICATIONS
Where Each End of the Range Fits
Low-Pressure Hydraulics
1/4 and 5/16 at 210 and 157 bar, for return and control lines on small machines.
Lube and Oil Delivery
3/8 and 1/2 at 140 and 122 bar, where oil is moved rather than pressurised.
Air and Water Service
5/8 and 7/8 at 105 and 56 bar, on utility lines that need a flexible body.
Truck and Bus Lines
1-1/8 and 1-3/8 at 43 and 35 bar, where the bore is sized for flow.
Large Return Lines
1-3/4 and 2-3/8 at 24 bar, carrying oil back from a large cylinder.
Fill and Drain
3 inch at 14 bar and 2.84 kg/m, where an 88 mm outside diameter is the practical limit for handling.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
What R5 Buyers Ask
The question is almost always which row applies, because the range covers fifteen times the pressure.
① Row-Level Specification low pressure hose
Trend: Buyers quote a bore and a pressure, not a product name.
Dohose: Eleven rows from 21.0 MPa to 1.4 MPa, each published.
② Large Bore Flow large bore hose
Trend: Above 1-1/2 inch the bore is chosen for flow.
Dohose: 46, 61 and 76 mm codes at 2.4, 2.4 and 1.4 MPa.
③ Weight at Large Size heavy hose
Trend: A 3 inch hose is a handling question before it is a pressure one.
Dohose: 2.84 kg/m at the 76 mm code, against 0.25 at 1/4 inch.
④ Textile vs Wire textile hose
Trend: Buyers ask whether a wire braid is needed.
Dohose: R5 is textile, and the rating falls with bore as a result.
⑤ Dual Unit Rows metric hose
Trend: Specifications arrive in bar and psi.
Dohose: Every row carries both, 21.0 beside 3,046.
⑥ Stores Simplicity standard hose
Trend: A store wants few classes, not eleven.
Dohose: The table states which rows share a class, such as the 46 and 61 mm pair.

FAQ
R5 Hose — Ten Questions
What is the working pressure of R5?
It depends on the bore, and the spread is wide: 21.0 MPa (210 bar) at the 1/4 inch code, 14.0 MPa at 3/8, 10.5 MPa at 5/8, and 1.4 MPa (14 bar) at the 3 inch code. Every row carries burst at four times its own rating.
R5 vs R6 — which one for a return line?
R6 if the bore is 19 mm or less and the pressure is around 20 bar. R5 starts at 210 bar at 1/4 inch and runs to 76 mm, so it covers both smaller high-pressure returns and large low-pressure ones in one family.
Can a 3 inch R5 replace a wire-braided hose?
Only at 14 bar. The 76 mm code is rated 1.4 MPa with 5.6 MPa burst, so a wire-braided hose of that bore will hold far more. R5 at 3 inch is a fill, drain or large return line, not a pressure line.
What are the bore sizes?
Eleven codes from 6 to 76 mm inside diameter: 6, 8, 10, 12.5, 16, 22, 28, 35, 46, 61 and 76 mm, which is 1/4 through 3 inch. Outside diameter runs 14.1 to 90.7 mm.
Why does the rating fall so sharply with bore?
Because a textile braid over a large circle carries far less wire per unit of hoop stress than the same braid over a small one. The table shows it directly: 21.0 MPa at 6 mm against 1.4 MPa at 76 mm, on the same construction.
Why is there no bend radius in the table?
Because this class is specified by bore and pressure rather than by a published minimum arc. The table gives inside diameter with tolerances, outside diameter from 14.1 mm to 90.7 mm and mass from 0.25 to 2.84 kg/m, so the routing is planned from the outside diameter instead.
Which row for a 100 bar return line at 1/2 inch?
The 12.5 mm code at 12.2 MPa (122 bar) with 48.8 MPa burst, on a 22.2 to 23.8 mm outside diameter and 0.45 kg/m. It is the row that covers 100 bar at that bore with margin.
Which row for a 3 inch fill line?
The 76 mm code at 1.4 MPa and 2.84 kg/m, with an 88.3 to 90.7 mm outside diameter. A fill line runs at a few bar, so the large bore is chosen for flow and the class follows.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
100 metres per size, cut to length, across 6 mm to 76 mm inside diameter. Production runs about 20 days from confirmation, and OEM marking and packing are available for distributor stock.
What does R5 cost per metre?
Price follows the bore and the braid: 0.25 kg/m at 1/4 inch, 0.45 at 1/2, 1.0 at 1-3/8 and 2.84 kg/m at 3 inch. Send the bore, the pressure, the length and the destination for a firm figure the same working day.
