PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
R3 Hose — Soft, Low-Pressure, and Meant to Bend
SAE 100R3 is the softest hydraulic class we build. Six codes from 10 to 32 mm inside diameter, rated 7.8 MPa (78 bar) at the smallest and 2.6 MPa at the largest, with burst at four times working on every row.
The reinforcement is fiber reinforced textile braid rather than wire, which is why the same body that holds 78 bar at 3/8 inch still turns inside a 100 mm arc.
What distinguishes it is not the pressure but the bend. The 1-1/4 inch code asks for a 250 mm minimum radius on a 42.8 to 45.2 mm outside diameter — roughly eight times its bore. A textile braid bends like a garden line, and that is what a machine with a moving arm and a looping return depends on.
Outside diameter runs 18.3 to 45.2 mm and mass 0.26 to 0.77 kg/m, so this is a light, flexible body. It is specified where the line has to follow a movement, not where it has to hold a spike.
Ends are metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS, crimped and pressure-tested in-house before dispatch, and every size is supplied cut to length. The point of a soft body is that it can be re-routed on a machine without replacing the line.

WHY THIS HOSE
Why R3 Exists Alongside R5
Two textile classes, and they fail in opposite directions. R5 is about pressure, R3 is about movement.
78 bar at 3/8 Inch
The smallest code holds 7.8 MPa with 31.2 MPa burst, on a 100 mm arc and 0.26 kg/m.
26 bar at 1-1/4
The largest code is 2.6 MPa with 10.4 MPa burst, at 250 mm arc. Low pressure, but a long life on a flexing line.
Bend Radius Grows With Bore
100 mm at 3/8 inch up to 250 mm at 1-1/4 inch. The arc is a large multiple of the bore on every row.
4:1 Throughout
31.2 on 7.8, 28.0 on 7.0, 10.4 on 2.6. The ratio is constant while the ceiling drops.
Lightest Bodies Here
0.26 kg/m at the small end to 0.77 kg/m at 1-1/4 inch, on a 42.8 to 45.2 mm outside diameter.
Four to One Pressure Spread
78 bar down to 26 bar across three sizes. Unlike R5, the fall is gradual, so the choice is gentler.
CONSTRUCTION
Textile for Movement
Inner Tube
Oil-resistant synthetic rubber, bored 9.3 mm to 33.0 mm. The same tube compounds as the rest of the hydraulic range.
Reinforcement
Textile braid rated from 7.8 MPa down to 2.6 MPa with four times burst. Fewer and lighter strands than a wire body, which is why it bends so far.
Cover
Abrasion-resistant cover, outside diameter 18.3 to 19.8 mm at 3/8 inch through 42.8 to 45.2 mm at 1-1/4 inch.
APPLICATIONS
Where a Soft Body Is the Right Answer
Moving Arm Returns
Return lines that have to loop with an arm, where a 140 to 250 mm arc keeps the hose alive.
Low-Pressure Control
Signal and pilot lines that never see more than 70 bar.
Tool and Tractor Lines
Utility lines on small machines where the whole circuit runs below 60 bar.
Washdown and Lubrication
Oil delivery at 26 to 39 bar, sized for flow rather than pressure.
Test Benches
Lines that are re-routed constantly, where flex life matters more than rating.
Breather and Drain Lines
Small-bore services at 78 bar with a 100 mm arc and no weight to carry.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
What R3 Buyers Ask
The enquiries are about how many times the hose will be flexed, not about the pressure it holds.
① Flex Life flexible hose
Trend: Buyers ask for a hose that survives repeated movement.
Dohose: Textile braid with a 250 mm arc at the 1-1/4 inch code.
② Weight on Moving Parts lightweight hose
Trend: Every gram on a moving arm is felt.
Dohose: 0.26 kg/m at 3/8 inch to 0.77 kg/m at 1-1/4.
③ Right-Sizing Down low pressure hose
Trend: Pressure lines get downrated once the real duty is measured.
Dohose: 7.8 MPa at the small end against 21.0 on R5 of the same 6 mm class.
④ One Class Across Sizes standard hose
Trend: A single class per machine family.
Dohose: Six bores, every row at a 4:1 margin.
⑤ Bend Radius Planning hose routing
Trend: The arc is checked before the bore is chosen.
Dohose: 100 to 250 mm published per row.
⑥ Dual Unit Data metric hose
Trend: Specifications arrive in bar and psi.
Dohose: Every row carries both, 7.8 beside 1,131.

FAQ
R3 Hose — Ten Questions
What is the working pressure of R3?
It falls with bore, from 7.8 MPa (78 bar) at the 3/8 inch code to 2.6 MPa (26 bar) at 1-1/4 inch, with burst at four times working on every row, so 31.2 MPa down to 10.4 MPa.
R3 vs R5 — which one for a low-pressure line?
R3 if the line has to flex, R5 if it has to hold pressure. R3 is rated 78 bar at 3/8 inch and asks for a 100 mm arc; R5 holds 210 bar at the same bore, on a lighter braid that bends less freely.
Can R3 replace a wire-braided hose?
Only where the duty stays low. R3 tops out at 78 bar on the 3/8 code with 31.2 MPa burst, so a circuit that spikes above that needs a wire body. For return, pilot and lube lines the textile class is the right one.
What are the bore sizes and bend radii?
Six codes: 10, 12.5, 16, 19, 25 and 32 mm inside diameter, with minimum bend radius 100, 125, 140, 150, 205 and 250 mm in the same order. Outside diameter runs 18.3 to 45.2 mm.
Why does a low-pressure hose need such a long bend radius?
Because the arc follows the wall, and a textile wall is thin. At 1-1/4 inch the outside diameter is 42.8 to 45.2 mm on a 31.4 to 33.0 mm bore, so the body is thick relative to the bore and wants a long, gentle loop.
Why is the burst margin 4:1 on this range?
The table publishes 31.2 MPa burst on 7.8 MPa working at the small end and 10.4 on 2.6 at the large, and the ratio is the same on every row, so the page quotes one ratio rather than a range average.
Which code for a moving arm return line?
The 25 or 32 mm code at 205 or 250 mm arc and 0.74 to 0.77 kg/m. A moving arm needs the long loop and the light body, and 39 bar is usually enough on a return leg.
Which code for a pilot line at 60 bar?
The 10 mm code at 78 bar with 31.2 MPa burst, on a 100 mm arc and 0.26 kg/m. It is the lightest body on the range and it routes past a control block without crowding it.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
100 metres per size, cut to length, across 9.3 mm to 33.0 mm inside diameter. Production runs about 20 days from confirmation, and assemblies ship crimped and pressure-tested with metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS ends.
What does R3 cost per metre?
Price follows the bore: 0.26 kg/m at 3/8 inch, 0.38 at 1/2, 0.42 at 5/8, 0.58 at 3/4, 0.74 at 1 inch and 0.77 kg/m at 1-1/4 inch. Send bore, length, ends and destination for a firm figure.
