PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Steel Mill Hose — Heat, Scale and a 700 bar Burst

A steel mill is the harshest place a rubber hose works: radiant heat, mill scale, water spray and a maintenance window measured in minutes. The K201 body is built for that duty: a heat-resistant tube, steel wire braid, and a cover that takes abrasion from scale rather than from gravel.

The range is 4 codes from 8 mm to 16 mm. Working pressure is 2,538 psi (about 175 bar) at the smallest code down to 1,523 psi (about 105 bar) at 16 mm, with minimum burst from 10,153 psi (700 bar) to 6,092 psi (420 bar) — a 4:1 margin throughout.

Bend radius runs 115 to 200 mm, which is what a mill stand allows once the line has to clear a water pipe and a scale chute. Every figure below is quoted in psi and bar because the table publishes psi.

Application & Selection

Steel mill hose: high-pressure steam hose, heat-resistant hydraulic hose and wear-resistant covers for hot, abrasive plant conditions. Hose for Steel Mills and Foundries is published in 4 codes spanning 8–16 mm bore. With bores of 8 to 16 mm and outside diameters of 14.3 to 24.5 mm, the line clears the tight manifolds on continuous-cast lines.

Working and burst rating of Hose for Steel Mills and Foundries peak at 175 / 700 bar, a 4:1 margin. Assemblies of Hose for Steel Mills and Foundries are crimped and pressure-tested in-house, with metric / BSP / JIC / ORFS ends. MOQ on Hose for Steel Mills and Foundries is 100 m on standard items.

WHY THIS HOSE

Six Reasons K201 Is a Mill Hose

The duty is heat and abrasion at moderate pressure. The numbers below show where the margin sits.

01

700 bar Burst at 8 mm

The smallest code is rated 2,538 psi working (175 bar) with 10,153 psi (700 bar) minimum burst, a 4:1 margin on a heat-resistant body.

02

105 bar at 16 mm

The 16 mm code is rated 1,523 psi (105 bar) with 6,092 psi (420 bar) burst. Pressure tapers with bore here, which is the opposite of a constant-class hydraulic range.

03

Heat-Resistant Construction

Tube and cover are selected for a mill environment rather than for a workshop floor, because radiant heat ages rubber faster than pressure does.

04

Bend Radius 115 to 200 mm

Published per row, so a line can be routed around the stand before the coil is ordered.

05

Steel Braid Under a Thick Cover

The braid carries the pressure; the cover takes the scale. In a mill it is the cover that decides replacement interval.

06

Proof-Tested Assemblies

Crimped and tested before dispatch, because a mill maintenance window does not allow a second attempt.

CONSTRUCTION

Heat-Resistant Tube, Braid, Cover

Inner Tube

Heat-resistant synthetic rubber, bored 8 mm to 16 mm across the four codes.

Reinforcement

Steel wire braid, giving 2,538 psi working at 8 mm and 1,523 psi at 16 mm, with burst at 10,153 and 6,092 psi.

Cover

Abrasion- and heat-resistant cover sized for scale and water spray rather than for dragging on concrete.

APPLICATIONS

Where K201 Is Used

Mill Stand Hydraulics

Roll gap and balance cylinders at 8 and 10 mm, where 2,538 and 2,277 psi cover the circuit.

Scale & Descaling Lines

Spray and descaling headers on the run-out table, where heat and water arrive together.

Furnace Door & Pusher

Door and pusher cylinders on walking-beam furnaces, at 13 mm and 2,031 psi.

Shear & Straightener

Shear hold-down and straightener circuits at 16 mm and 1,523 psi.

FAQ

Steel Mill Hose — Ten Questions

What is the working pressure at 8 mm?

The smallest code is rated 2,538 psi working, about 175 bar, with 10,153 psi (700 bar) minimum burst — a 4:1 margin. Minimum bend radius is 115 mm, and the bore is 8 mm.

What is the rating at 16 mm?

The largest code is rated 1,523 psi (about 105 bar) with 6,092 psi (420 bar) burst. Bend radius is 200 mm. Note that the rating falls with bore on this range, so the row matters more than the page headline.

Can this hose replace a standard hydraulic hose in a mill?

Where the pressure fits, yes, but the reason to use K201 is heat and scale rather than pressure. A standard hose on the same 8 mm bore carries more pressure and less heat. At 2,538 psi working there is no advantage in a higher rating if the cover fails first.

Why does the cover fail before the tube?

Because scale and radiant heat attack the outside. At 8 mm the tube is rated 175 bar, but the cover sees molten scale at a temperature no tube rating describes. In a mill the hose is not dragged over gravel, it sits against hot steel with mill scale falling on it. The cover is the part that decides replacement interval, and it is why this body is specified rather than a general-purpose one.

Which codes for a mill stand?

8 and 10 mm for roll gap and balance circuits, at 2,538 and 2,277 psi. The 13 and 16 mm codes are for furnace door, pusher and shear circuits where the flow is higher and the pressure lower.

K201 vs a 2SN at 8 mm — which for a mill stand?

Wrong hose for the job, even though 2SN carries more pressure: at 8 mm 2SN is rated 41.5 MPa against 2,538 psi (175 bar) here. In a mill the cover fails first, so the higher rating buys nothing. K201 is chosen on heat and scale, and it still has 10,153 psi (700 bar) burst behind it.

Why does a mill hose fail at the crimp?

Because the joint is the coolest point on the line and the place where scale collects. A 4:1 margin (10,153 psi against 2,538 psi at 8 mm) protects the tube, not the ferrule. Heat cycles the cover, scale packs around the ferrule, and the crimp that was correct when it was built is holding a hardened cover a year later. Re-ending a used mill hose is not a repair.

Why does the line kink at 115 mm?

Because 115 mm is the minimum at 8 mm bore, and a heat-aged cover has less give than a new one. In a mill, route above the published figure: 115 mm on the drawing becomes 95 mm on a hot stand once a clamp has moved.

Which Chinese manufacturer supplies mill hose assemblies?

YIBO, in Luohe, Henan, supplies the K201 range in 4 codes from 8 mm to 16 mm, with a 4:1 burst margin, crimped and proof-tested in-house before dispatch.

What does mill hose cost per metre?

Price follows the bore and the cover: the 8 mm code is rated 2,538 psi and the 16 mm code 1,523 psi, and both are quoted per metre with ends. Send bore, length and end types for a firm figure the same working day.
