PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
R12 Hose — 280 bar From 3/8 to 1 Inch
SAE 100R12 is the four-spiral step above 4SP: 28.0 MPa (280 bar) with 112.0 MPa burst, held from the 3/8 inch code all the way to 1 inch. That flat run across five sizes is what makes the range easy to specify.
At 1-1/4 inch the table lists two rows on identical dimensions, 2.78 kg/m and a 420 mm arc: one at 21.0 MPa and one at 28.0 MPa. The higher one carries a T suffix. Above that, at 1-1/2 and 2 inch, the rating drops to 17.5 MPa (175 bar) and the weight climbs to 4.09 and 5.31 kg/m.
So the range has three zones: a flat 280 bar from 3/8 to 1 inch, a choice at 1-1/4 inch, and a lower class from 1-1/2 inch up. The page states which is which rather than quoting one headline figure.

WHY THIS HOSE
Three Zones, Not One Rating
On this range the pressure class depends on where in the table you are, and the boundary is worth knowing before ordering.
280 bar, 3/8 to 1 Inch
Five codes, 10 to 25 mm bore, all 28.0 MPa with 112.0 MPa burst and bend radius from 125 to 300 mm.
Two Rows at 1-1/4
21.0 MPa and 28.0 MPa on the same 31.4 to 33.0 mm bore, both 2.78 kg/m and 420 mm. The T row is the higher class.
175 bar Above 1-1/2
The 38 mm and 51 mm codes drop to 17.5 MPa with 70.0 MPa burst, so the large sizes are a different class.
Burst Ratio Holds at 4:1
112 on 28, 84 on 21, 70 on 17.5. The ratio does not change with the zone, only the ceiling.
Arc 125 to 640 mm
The 3/8 code turns in 125 mm; the 2 inch code needs 640 mm. On a machine that is the routing decision.
Weight to 5.31 kg/m
0.76 kg/m at the small end against 5.31 kg/m at 2 inch, which is where support spacing becomes a design item.
CONSTRUCTION
Four Spirals, Two Classes at One Size
Inner Tube
Oil-resistant synthetic rubber, bored 9.3 mm to 52.0 mm across the nine rows.
Reinforcement
Four spiral-wound steel wire layers, measuring 16.6 to 65.1 mm. At 1-1/4 inch the same reinforcement is offered in two pressure classes at identical weight.
Cover
Abrasion-resistant cover, outside diameter 19.5 to 21.0 mm at the 3/8 code through 65.1 to 68.3 mm at 2 inch.
APPLICATIONS
Where R12 Is Used
Mobile Pressure Lines
3/8 and 1/2 inch at 280 bar on 125 and 180 mm arcs, the common hydraulic working sizes.
Boom Cylinders
3/4 inch at 240 mm arc, where the cylinder dead-heads at the end of stroke.
Main Headers
1 inch at 300 mm arc, the largest size that still holds the full 280 bar.
Large Cylinder Feeds
1-1/4 inch, choosing the T row at 28.0 MPa when the duty sits above 210 bar.
Return and Drain
1-1/2 and 2 inch at 175 bar, where flow matters and the class is lower by design.
Fixed Plant
Skid piping where the 640 mm arc of the 2 inch code is available.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
What R12 Buyers Ask
The question is almost always about the 1-1/4 inch double row, because that is where the table stops being obvious.
① One Class to 1 Inch high pressure hose
Trend: Machines want a single class across working sizes.
Dohose: 28.0 MPa held from 10 mm to 25 mm bore.
② The 1-1/4 Question dual rated hose
Trend: Buyers ask why one size lists two pressures.
Dohose: 21.0 and 28.0 MPa at 2.78 kg/m and 420 mm, with a T suffix on the higher class.
③ Large Bore Class Drop large bore hose
Trend: Teams assume the whole range is one class.
Dohose: 17.5 MPa published on the 38 mm and 51 mm codes.
④ Impulse Duty high impulse hose
Trend: Spiral is specified where the line cycles under load.
Dohose: Four layers at 112.0 MPa burst on the 28.0 MPa codes.
⑤ Support on Large Sizes heavy hose
Trend: Clamp spacing is queried with the hose above 1 inch.
Dohose: 4.09 and 5.31 kg/m on the two largest codes.
⑥ Traceability traceable hose
Trend: Class and batch are recorded per machine.
Dohose: Marked on each cut length with the test date.

FAQ
R12 Hose — Ten Questions
What is the working pressure of R12?
From 3/8 to 1 inch it is 28.0 MPa (280 bar) with 112.0 MPa burst on five codes. At 1-1/4 inch there are two rows, 21.0 and 28.0 MPa, and at 1-1/2 and 2 inch the rating falls to 17.5 MPa with 70.0 MPa burst.
R12 vs 4SP — what is the difference?
Bore coverage and class at the large end. 4SP runs 6.2 to 16.7 mm at up to 45.0 MPa, while R12 starts at 9.3 mm and holds 28.0 MPa to 25 mm bore, then continues to 51 mm at 17.5 MPa. The two overlap only in the middle of the size range.
Can the T row replace the standard 1-1/4 inch code?
Yes, and it is the one to specify above 210 bar. Both rows are 31.4 to 33.0 mm bore, 2.78 kg/m and a 420 mm arc, but the standard row is 21.0 MPa with 84.0 MPa burst and the T row is 28.0 MPa with 112.0 MPa.
What are the bore sizes and arcs?
Nine rows from 10 to 51 mm bore, with minimum bend radius 125, 180, 200, 240, 300, 420, 420, 500 and 640 mm in table order. Outside diameter runs 19.5 to 68.3 mm.
Why does the rating drop at 1-1/2 inch?
Because the wall is held rather than scaled. The 38 mm and 51 mm codes carry 17.5 MPa with 70.0 MPa burst at 4.09 and 5.31 kg/m, so the large sizes are a lower class at a heavier weight rather than the same class in a bigger hose.
Why are there two 1-1/4 inch rows at the same weight?
Because the same reinforcement can be built to two test classes. Both measure 42.7 to 45.1 mm reinforcement and 2.78 kg/m on a 420 mm arc, and only the working and burst figures differ: 21.0 against 28.0 MPa.
Which code for a 250 bar working line?
The 1/2 inch code at 28.0 MPa on a 180 mm arc, or the 3/4 inch at 240 mm if flow demands it. Both hold the full 280 bar, so the choice is made on flow and space rather than on class.
Which code for a 1-1/2 inch return line?
The 38 mm code at 17.5 MPa on a 500 mm arc. A return line is sized for pressure drop, so the lower class at 4.09 kg/m is the correct fit rather than a limitation.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
100 m per size, cut to length, across 10 mm to 52 mm inside diameter. Production runs about 20 days from confirmation, and assemblies ship crimped and pressure-tested with metric, BSP, JIC or ORFS ends.
What does R12 cost per metre?
Price follows the bore: 0.76 kg/m at 3/8 inch through 1.87 at 1 inch to 5.31 kg/m at 2 inch. The 1-1/4 T row carries the same 2.78 kg/m as the standard row. Send bore, length, ends and destination for a firm figure.
