PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
SWJ Cleaning Hose — 1 Layer at 4:1, 4 Layers at 1,000 bar
This page publishes two hoses under one family name. Three rows are a single wire braid at 18 to 22.5 MPa, and two rows are a four-layer build at 100 MPa — the same water-jet duty, at two very different pressures, in bores from 5.5 mm to 13.7 mm.
The layer count is the specification, not the code. SWJ-10 appears twice: once as a 3/8 inch one-layer hose at 18 MPa and once as a four-layer hose at 100 MPa, with the outside diameter moving from 18.8–19.8 mm to 21.3–21.7 mm. Ordering SWJ-10 without saying which build is how the wrong hose arrives.
The published burst ratios follow the build rather than a house rule. The single-braid rows sit at 4:1 — 90 MPa burst on 22.5 MPa, 88 on 21.5 and 72 on 18 — while both four-layer rows are 250 MPa on 100 MPa, a 2.5:1 margin. Five rows, two classes, one page.

WHY THIS HOSE
Six Reasons the Layer Count Comes First
The same part number carries two different ratings on this page. These six points are what separates them.
One Code, Two Builds
SWJ-10 is published as a one-layer hose at 18 MPa and as a four-layer hose at 100 MPa, both on a 3/8 inch bore, so the code alone does not fix the pressure.
1,000 bar on Four Layers
The four-layer rows reach 100 MPa (1,000 bar) with 250 MPa burst, on 3/8 and 1/2 inch bores and a 300 mm bend radius.
4:1 on the Single Braid
The one-layer rows are quoted at four times working pressure — 22.5 over 90, 21.5 over 88 and 18 over 72 — which is the margin a standard cleaning line is built to.
2.5:1 at the Top
The four-layer rows are 250 MPa burst on 100 MPa working. That is a lower ratio than the single braid and it is what the table publishes, not a figure rounded up for the page.
Bore Starts at 5.5 mm
The smallest code is a 5.5 to 6.5 mm bore at 22.5 MPa, which is the size that enters a small tube; the largest is 12.7 to 13.7 mm at 100 MPa in four layers.
Outside Diameter Moves
Adding three wire layers costs 2.5 mm of outside diameter on the same 3/8 inch bore: 18.8–19.8 mm at one layer against 21.3–21.7 mm at four.
CONSTRUCTION
Tube, Wire, Cover
Inner Tube
The water-jet tube, published across 5.5 mm to 13.7 mm bore in both builds, with the four-layer rows on the same bore range as the single braid.
Reinforcement
One layer of steel wire braid on three rows, four layers on two. The count is a published column and it is what sets the pressure class.
Cover
An abrasion-resistant outer cover, taking the outside diameter to 24.9 mm on the 1/2 inch four-layer code.
APPLICATIONS
Where Each Build Belongs
Surface Cleaning
The SWJ-10 one-layer code at 18 MPa on a 125 mm arc, on a hand lance.
Tube Entry
The SWJ-6 code at 5.5 mm bore and a 100 mm radius, small enough to enter a narrow tube.
Descaling
The SWJ-8 code at 21.5 MPa on a 115 mm arc, on a line that is pushed rather than carried.
Water-Jet Cutting Assist
The SWJ-10 four-layer code at 100 MPa, where the pressure does the work.
High-Pressure Jetting
The SWJ-13 code at 12.7 mm bore in four layers, on a 300 mm radius.
Rust and Coating Removal
The SWJ-13 four-layer code at 250 MPa burst, on a fixed installation.
HIGH-END INDUSTRY DIRECTIONS
What a Water-Jet Buyer Checks
The layer count and the outside diameter decide the order; the bore then follows from the tube being cleaned.
① Higher Working Pressure water jet hose
Trend: Jetting units move above 200 bar.
Dohose: Four-layer rows at 100 MPa.
② One Family, Two Classes cleaning hose
Trend: Buyers standardise on one brand and two builds.
Dohose: SWJ codes in 1 and 4 layers.
③ Small-Bore Tubes small bore hose
Trend: Compact exchangers have narrower tubes.
Dohose: 5.5 mm bore at 22.5 MPa.
④ Outside Diameter Limits compact hose
Trend: Reels and guides are fixed by the machine.
Dohose: 18.8 mm at one layer, 21.3 mm at four.
⑤ Wear at the Bend abrasion resistant hose
Trend: The arc is where the cover goes.
Dohose: 100 to 300 mm minimum radius by code.
⑥ Replacement by Code replacement hose
Trend: A line is replaced from its printed code.
Dohose: Layer count marked with the code on each length.

FAQ
SWJ Cleaning Hose — Ten Questions
One layer vs four layers on the same bore — what changes?
The pressure and the outside diameter. On a 3/8 inch bore the one-layer code is 18 MPa with an 18.8–19.8 mm outside, and the four-layer code is 100 MPa with 21.3–21.7 mm outside — 2.5 mm of extra body for the extra wall.
Can a four-layer hose replace a one-layer on a 180 bar machine?
It will fit the same 9.7 to 10.1 mm bore and take the pressure, but it is the wrong purchase: the four-layer build is rated 100 MPa and costs accordingly, while the one-layer code already carries 18 MPa with a 4:1 margin.
What are the two SWJ-10 builds?
The 3/8 inch bore is published twice: one layer at 18 MPa with 72 MPa burst and a 125 mm arc, and four layers at 100 MPa with 250 MPa burst and a 300 mm arc. The code alone does not say which one you have.
What is the rating on the 1/2 inch code?
100 MPa (1,000 bar) working with 250 MPa minimum burst, on a 12.7 to 13.7 mm bore, a 24.5 to 24.9 mm outside diameter and a 300 mm bend radius.
Will it work on a water-jet cleaning machine?
It is a water-jet hose in both builds: the one-layer rows at 18 to 22.5 MPa for a standard lance, and the four-layer rows at 100 MPa where the machine is a high-pressure unit.
What is the smallest bore?
5.5 to 6.5 mm, which is the SWJ-6 one-layer code at 22.5 MPa with a 100 mm bend radius — the size that enters a narrow tube bundle.
Why is the four-layer margin only 2.5:1?
Because that is the published figure: 250 MPa burst on 100 MPa working, on both four-layer rows, at 3/8 and 1/2 inch. The single-braid rows are 4:1 instead — 90 MPa burst on 22.5 — so the two builds are rated on different ratios, and the table is quoted per row rather than as one house number.
Why does a one-layer hose bulge at the bend?
Because it is being run past 18 MPa on the 3/8 inch code, or bent tighter than the 125 mm arc, and a single braid has little to spare. The four-layer code exists for that duty, and it is a different line on the same page.
What is the minimum order?
One length or one assembly, in any of the five rows from 5.5 mm to 13.7 mm bore. Because SWJ-10 is published in two builds at the same 3/8 inch bore, the order has to name the layer count as well as the code, and each length is marked with both before it ships.
How is the hose priced?
By bore and by layer count: a 3/8 inch one-layer code at 18 MPa and the four-layer code at 100 MPa are different articles with the same name. Send code, layers, length, ends and destination for a firm figure.
